What Are Implant Dentures?

Implant Dentures are either fixed or removable oral appliances used to replace multiple missing teeth. If you are missing some or all your teeth, implant dentures might be just what you need to restore the function, beauty and health of your smile. There are two kinds of implant dentures: complete removable dentures and fixed dentures.

  • A complete removable implant denture is used to replace all of the teeth in a full dental arch. This denture will still need to be removed at night or for cleaning. It requires between 2-4+ implants to support it well. Stock posts are screwed into the top of the implant in the bone to provide a “pier” for which there is a matching “snap” inside the denture. If able to employ 4 or more implants, we can often eliminate much of the palate of the denture, making it much more comfortable to wear and function.
  • A complete fixed denture is used if you desire to have your denture NOT come out at any time—it is screwed into the implants (4 minimum) placed in the bone. This allows less palatal coverage of the palate (if an upper denture). This provides the maximum level of satisfaction and function!

What Happens before Getting Dentures?

We will work in concert with your referring dentist to determine which type of denture fits best for you—what your anatomy allows, what your budget is, and what you WANT to have. If you do not have a dentist with the skill and experience to provide this level of denture sophistication, we would love to work with Real Life Dental and Dr. Damon Thompson specifically. When you visit our office, we will carefully examine your entire mouth to determine which type of dentures will be most beneficial for you.

How Do I Know if I am a Good Candidate for Dentures?

The best way to determine this is to simply come for a complimentary consultation that includes a 3D x-ray of your mouth and supporting structures. Many factors go into determining if implant dentures are right for you—anatomy and budget being the largest determining factors.
